Audio-Technica’s internationally-patented Dual Magnet design replicates the structure of the cutter head.
Instead of using a single, large magnet, the two magnets are arranged in the shape of a "V". The two magnets are positioned precisely to match the positions of the left and right channels in the stereo groove walls. Consequently, the VM design ensures outstanding channel separation, extended frequency response and superb tracking.
Para-toroidal generating system
Para-toroidal coils improve generating efficiency and offers superb linearity, since leakage of magnetic flux in this continuous and unitised magnetic circuit is low. Permeability of the cores is also optimised through the use of laminated cores.
Centre shield plate reduces crosstalk
A permalloy centre shield plate enables the effective separation of left and right channels, suppressing electrical crosstalk to below 40dB. This is similar to the actual crosstalk value found in the grooves of the record itself.

Big improvement on my old cartridge
26 October 2024I had to replace my old 90s Dual cartridge. It’s always sounded fine to me, nothing I could criticise in isolation. However, the difference with this one is very noticeable. Really happy with it. Also, thanks for making a firm recommendation. I was a bit lost in a sea of choices. It was posted to me immediately too, great service. Only downside - I dropped one of the tiny nuts inside my turntable and I had to pull the thing apart to retrieve it! Cheers!

1 January 2019Hi Brian, I have been meaning to write this review since receiving my VM 540ML cartridge from Decibel HiFi a while ago. This cart is a gem. Smooth detailed sound and tracks beautifully. I have, in recent years had an Ortofon 2M Black and prior to that Goldring 1042, both very good cartridges, but the Audio technical takes the cake for overall performance and ease of set up. It has performed perfectly in rega RB 250 and RB300 arms and now resides in and Audio Technical AT 1005 mk2. It’s a keeper! Thanks to decibel hi fi for the great and friendly service.
