Leonard Gregory (The Cartridge Man) produced the MusicMaker and MusicMaster phono cartridges based on Grado cartridge bodies. After his passing in 2020 I wondered whether it might be possible to replicate his work in Australia, using improved current model components. We are fortunate to have an association with a highly skilled local technical facility who are able to carry out the necessary development work, plus repair, retip, and rebuild cartridges.
Using the latest Grado Prestige Black moving iron cartridges as a basis for experimentation, and fitted with a variety of cantilevers, diamond tip shapes, and modified suspension elements, we have been able to achieve remarkable performance at a modest price. The first of these cartridges is now available and uses an alloy cantilever with a Shibata-style diamond tip. Each stylus assembly is meticulously hand built. Other models are in development, and a version using a boron cantilever looks particularly promising.
The LG1 is available for order now, and is sold on a 14 day money-back, trial basis. So, if you don’t think it offers value for money in your system, you can return it for a full refund.
