Time-tested design

The X1 is the latest in over 25 years of design refinement and evolution, tracing its origins right back to the very beginning of Pro-Ject back in 1991. At that point, CDs were taking over, and vinyl fell out of fashion. Pro-Ject knew the irreplaceable experience of listening to a record would never fully go away, though, and made a commitment to analogue audio that is still being honoured today. 

The core design of their original P1 turntable represented everything Pro-Ject valued: simple designs, high-quality materials, and careful construction in Europe. More than 25 years of refining that design has led to the X1, the natural progression of Pro-Ject’s philosophy with decades of experience to guide it.

Dense MDF plinth with gorgeous finish options

Every aspect of the X1 is crafted to a premium standard, to ensure a sublime experience for all senses. The dense MDF plinth gives the X1 a solid feel that reflects its quality construction, while also providing another line of resistance against unwanted vibrations that can spoil your music. The gorgeous Piano Black and White finishes are painted in eight careful layers and hand-polished for a lustrous feel that you’d expect to find on a far more expensive product. The Walnut finish has a more natural feel, bringing an understated elegance to spaces with warmer décor.

Push-button speed control

Switch easily between 33⅓ and 45 RPM records with the X1’s push-button speed control, and even play 78 RPM records with a suitable cartridge.

The Chassis

Starting with the chassis, Pro-Ject have crafted the X1 from MDF, rather than standard particle boards resulting in a better sounding and feeling turntable. This chassis is then finished with 8 layers of painting and a hand-polished finish, designed to look good and remain looking good, especially when compared to the commonly used foil painting techniques.

The Motor

The chassis houses a sophisticated DC/AC generator board which, combined with the convenient speed control board, delivers clean and stable power to the quiet-running motor. For improved performance the motor is decoupled from the main plinth using a new motor suspension system.

The Sub-platter

In the X1, the motor drives a new, heavy, non-resonant Acryl platter via a sub-platter drive system and a premium grade main bearing for liquid smooth rotation. This is the perfect platform on which to place your precious vinyl records, guaranteeing absolute reliability in its performance and sonic character.

The Tonearm

The X1 is also better than its predecessors thanks to the super-stiff, perfectly tempered Carbon/Alu sandwich construction tonearm. This new 8.6” tonearm design is incredibly light and stiff, with improved resistance to external interference. Finished as one-piece, with a non-resonance-inducing headshell, the X1 tonearm can also be set for azimuth and VTA adjustment, offering the flexibility that so many people are asking for. The tonearm is then supplied with a TPE-damped counterweight, further reducing cartridge-tonearm resonances.
