Do It Yourself Speakers

This is the one area in hi fi where you can really save a lot of money, produce a high performance product, and get a great deal of satisfaction in the process.

There are various levels of build your own speakers - the most experienced will chose the drivers, research designs for the crossover and cabinets, and then build everything up from the components.

At the other end of the spectrum there are the complete kits provided by Decibel Hi Fi which have everything you need in one neat package, so all you have to do is assemble them and then decide how to finish them off.

In between there are kits that provide the drivers and crossover and designs for the cabinets, but you have to buy the board and cut up the pieces yourself.

We also are offering the Jordan wide range metal cone drivers for people who want to build up speakers that provide the most natural uncoloured sound available in the middle price range. The great advantage of using the Jordan drivers is their simplicity - no crossovers!

There will also be some other kits listed that have particular performance attributes and have been built up and tested before being offered for sale. One example is a floor standing omnidirectional design.

ASSEMBLY

FINISHING

There are several options here - the simplest is Painting or Varnishing. You can also Veneer your cabinets with real timber or vinyl.

Most people use the speaker kits without Grilles - but if you would like grilles we can supply the frames and grille cloth to suit each model.
