Origin Live Silver MkIII

"...probably the best arm in the world..." HI FI WORLD - written prior to the release of the Encounter and Illustrious tonearms. The performance of the silver is simply unmatched regardless of price. Owners describe comparison with established "bench mark" arms as "night and day". (£599 GBP)

"the Silver 250 is...the very best tonearm I've ever heard…awsomely tight bottom end...the midband - glass clear, incredibly liquid, fantastic image precision, walkaround soundstaging and incredible timbral realism...the treble is shockingly open and airy up top...the £599 price tag is laughably low...could probably charge 5 times this amount...words can’t express how good this is - one of the designs of the decade."
Hi-Fi World, March 2002

TNT Audio review           Hi Fi World review           Stereo Times review      6 Moons Review

The Silver tonearm is one of the finest performing tonearms available but at a fraction of the cost of it’s rivals. The arm builds on the success of the highly acclaimed RB250 modifications. The most critical components of the tonearm have been upgraded using advanced alloys and innovative techniques to greatly improve performance. The result of these upgrades is an incredibly transparent arm with superb tonal balance. The sound produced is free from colouration allowing previously unheard low level information to be noticed clearly. The arm also exhibits a clean dynamic sound coupled with a tight and powerful bass.

The modified rega arm has often been listed among the world's "super arms" for performance and frequently mentioned alongside names like the Linn Ekos, Naim Aro, SME V etc - these arms all have certain strengths and excell over one another in different areas but none could really be said to have it all together. The Silver addresses this situation and posseses a superb blend of qualities. It is this blend that makes it a truly great all rounder and able to excell in all aspects of music. Rather than make claims that the design approach of the Silver is the correct one, we simply recommend that you listen and compare this arm with the very best available.

Features

- New armtube made from high grade aircraft alloy
- New headshell decoupled and rigidly attached to the armtube
- Rear Stub and counterweight design is the same as the highly acclaimed Origin live Rega structural modification.
- The horizontal bearings have been upgraded to a higher ABEC specification. In addition to this they have also been positioned outside the arm tube and spaced more widely apart. This has the effect of reducing resonance within the arm tube and increasing torsional stability.
- Medium effective mass to match the requirements of modern moving coil and moving magnet cartridges
- Internal wiring of high grade Litz wire
- Headshell wires of robust PTFE insulated silver plated strands with gold plated copper beryllium cartridge tags
- External wire interconnect is a best choice from hundreds of cables tested.
- Phono connectors are high grade high conductivity aluminium phono plugs, which are over twice as conductive as brass phono connectors which results in a very audible improvement in the sound.
- The arm can be directly substituted for any Rega arm as the base dimensions are identical to the RB250 and RB300.
- Infinitely adjustable VTA adjuster to suit all decks is included.

Silver Tonearm: £599.00
If you supply us with a Rega RB250 you may deduct £80 from this which brings the price down to £519.00

Owner Comments

"I have fitted my new (Silver) tonearm and can now see why you were so excited about it. It gives a very clear focus to my music, the stereo effect is superb and the response is incredible. All the instruments in each piece I played have a new vibrancy about them. To say that I am very pleased with it would be an understatement. It was also extremely easy to fit and set up. It has only after such a short time given a new meaning to vinyl listening for me. Thank you for your advice."

"Two years ago I bought a Gyro SE with a Rega 600 arm and Ortofon Rhoman cartridge. This again, was a huge step up (from my Linn Axis). Recently I have purchased your Silver arm. I put it on my Gyro with the Ortofon cartridge and was completely blown away. I was amazed at how much better vinyl playback could still get. Every aspect of the music was improved with no compromise. Over the years I have made many improvements (some very costly) to my system, but this arm is by far the biggest improvement I have ever made."
J Strattan, Vancouver, Canada

"Last Friday Les from Walrus systems fitted a Silver Taper tonearm to Nottingham analogue Hyperspace. I just wanted you to know that Les did a superb job in fitting the arm and the difference it makes is unbelieveable!. It now sounds like I have upgraded every part of the system ( except the poor old CD player which feels very left out). Speakers now seem to disappear every time the needle hits the groove. Thank you for the best value product in audio today and my advice is to ditch that cd and buy a Silver Taper and get a true professional like Les to fit it"
