SRM Tech Spirit Level The level itself is very accurate and easy to read, being a huge 40mm in diameter. The clear acrylic base allows it to sit perfectly over the spindle, so you are reading the level exactly where you need to - the centre of the platter. It is light enough not to disturb the level of a suspended sub-chassis turntable. If the deck is unlevel tracking is severely compromised as the arm bias (anti-skate force) will not operate correctly. Also the balance of the platter is impaired, not only causing wow but also making the motor and main bearing noisier. Your CD player will benefit immensely from perfectly level operation, as will speakers - the sound seems to 'snap into focus' when they are both level. Unlevel speakers cause phase anomalies.
