With new and old vinyl prices creeping ever-upwards, the prices of professional record cleaning machines are looking great by comparison. One of the most famous record-cleaning machine brands is the Dutch-designed Okki Nokki, RCM record-cleaning whose build quality, features and performance might reasonably be expected to come with a considerably higher price tag. Originally conceived around 15 years ago by Dutch designer Johan Bezem, the design and construction of the RCM have steadily evolved over the years, such that its quiet-running vacuum motor has the ability to spin in both directions and a clever float mechanism that stops it operating when the fluid needs to be drained, so there’s no risk of fluid getting into the motor.
Unlike some record-cleaning machines, the Okki Nokki is simple and effortless to use. ‘Everything can be done with just two switches—one for forward/reverse and the other for suction,’ said Boris Granovsky, of Absolute Hi End, which distributes Okki Nokki in Australia. ‘Most important of all, it delivers excellent results, whisking away the minute dirt particles that get in the grooves of used records, and clearing away the debris left over from the pressing process on new pressings. This latest version of the machine is the best yet, and there’s no doubt that it’s the best record-cleaning machine on the market at its price point.’
The Okki Nokki RCM has a waterproof plastic/alloy sandwich body, comes with a precision-milled aluminium clamp to hold records securely in place during cleaning, proprietary concentrated record cleaning fluid designed to bring dirt to the surface for easy removal, and an anti-static goat hair brush. Optional vacuum arm tubes are available to clean 10-inch and 7-inch records, plus there’s an optional Perspex dust cover available.
Built-in safety features prevent fluid being sucked into the vacuum motor and the turntable motor overheating.
