There have been and still are many brands and designs of tone arms on the market - some extraordinarily expensive. But one design that has stood the test of time as an outstanding performer for the money is the Rega RB250 - sold as various brands such as Origin Live OL1.

As good as this tonearm is, there are a number of worthwhile improvements such as Origin Live's structural modification and Vertical Tracking Angle adjusters, and the Incognito wiring upgrade. So we offer the arm here in its basic and upgraded forms.

Another classic design is the Hadcock unipivot - after being off the market for several years it is now available again due to the efforts of Len Gregory, The Cartridge Man.

	ORIGIN LIVE Zephyr tonearm Product Code: OLZ The Zephyr builds on the performance of the Silver MK3a by virtue of a range of features: Superior Yoke design - encompassing higher grade material and high precision tolerancing of parts, finished in chrome. Internal cable and external cable is fully balanced and upgraded to a more costly wire than used in Silver MK3a arm. Bearing design - Gimballed arm using specially treated bearings. Headshell consists of aircraft grade aluminium. This is specially decaoupled from the armtube to ensure good isolation from resonant feedback through the tube. 	REK-O-KUT S-260 MkII oil-damped audiophile transcription tonearm Product Code: ROKS260MkII There are very few modern tonearms that actually have 16" transcription disc capacity. They cost many times the price of the S-260 MKII. This extra length also has advantages for the more common 12" LP records, in that there is less of a tracking error. A superbly built unit which has the tonearm wires continuous from the headshell clips to the RCA plugs (just like the Incognito rewire kits). 	ORIGIN LIVE Illustrious MkIII Product Code: OLI Current arms are now in the MK 3version - these have a much higher performance due to their dual pivot bearings and MK2 arm tube which consists of a superior alloy to the MK1. The latest tubes are identified by their satin chrome finish as opposed to the black tubes in the MK1 version. I suspect the Mk III Illustrious is now the value-for-money sweet spot in the lineup, and if not the world's best, it is certainly world class. As noted, it will not appeal to the audiophiliac who is compelled to endlessly fiddle and adjust everything. Rather, it is an elegant—and addictive—solution to extracting music from vinyl. Combining the sonic virtues of both unipivot and gimbaled bearings in a fuss-free package, it should work exceedingly well with a wide variety of cartridges and turntables.
