This is the bulk packed version of the very popular Audio Technica AT95E cartridge. It is supplied with mounting bolts and nuts, and an instruction sheet, but not the retail packaging.
We recommend it as a replacement cartridge for a wide variety of turntables - in particular all the Japanese brands from the 70s and 80s like Apan, Hitachi, JVC, Kenwood, Luxman, Marantz, National Panasonic Technics, Onkyo, Pioneer, Sansui, Sanyo, Sharp, Sony, Teac, Toshiba, Yamaha etc. When mounted in a headshell it needs to be correctly aligned and the tracking force and anti-skating set to 2gm. An Ortofon alignment template and stylus force gauge are useful tools to help do this correctly.
Now available, the best inexpensive cartridge!
The AT-95E has a very distinguished and colorful lineage. On its own, it has been a multiple recipient of Best Buy ratings in the UK. Its lineage is intertwined with the classic and musically acclaimed Linn Basik, K5 and K9 phono cartridges. Unlike these cartridges however, the AT-95E is delightfully affordable and available. Recently in the Stereophile October 2004 issue, the AT-95E was honored with a Class D rating and included in the Recommended Components List (Stereophile Vol. 27 No. 10). The review summarized the performance of the AT-95E with the following words: "Makes music for 50 bucks!"
The half-inch standard mount and dual-magnet AT-95E cartridge sounds clear, dynamic and richly balanced. It allows music lovers to use limited means to upgrade their turntables and thus attain a higher level of discernment and listening pleasure without the financial burden typically associated with high end cartridges. Yes it is vibrant, dynamic and rich in detail as reviewers and users say, and some users may no longer wish to upgrade further. The AT-95E has been consistently rated a "Best Buy" in the UK and we agree wholeheartedly.
Manufactured to Audio-Technica's world class quality standards, each cartridge is completely hand assembled and tolerances are held to just thousands of an inch. The AT-95E cartridge offers the following fine features:
- 3.5 mV output
- Frequency response of 20-20,000 Hz
- Channel balance within 2.0 dB
- Channel separation >20 dB at 1kHz
- 0.4 x 0.7 mil elliptical stylus
- Bonded round shank stylus construction
- 1.5-2.5g tracking force
- Weight of 5.7g
- Aluminum cantilever
- Audio-Technica product spec and installation sheet included
- Replacement stylus ATN 95E
It is possible to upgrade the cartridge with a hyper-elliptical stylus (ATN95HE).
A stylus suitable for playing 78s is also available (ATN9578).
